Barcelona have been told they have not been allocated an away supporters’ section for the La Liga encounter with Atletico Madrid later this month.Ernesto Valverde’s side head to the Spanish capital on Saturday, October 14 to take on Atletico at the Wanda Metropolitano. While travelling supporters is not renowned as part of Spanish football culture, Barcelona would usually have been entitled to a small section of away following. But Barcelona have announced that a ‘logistical error’ from their administrative counterparts at Atletico has led to there being no away fans’ section for the fixture immediately after the international break.Los Rojiblancos have focused their efforts on prioritising the ticket demands of their 112,000-strong club members who have expressed a keen interest in securing their seat for the first game against Barca at the new stadium.Only 194 tickets were made available for away supporters during the club’s first two La Liga games, against Malaga and Sevilla respectively.Chelsea received 3,437 tickets for their Champions League match in Madrid last month – five per cent of the stadium capacity based on UEFA rules. But the absence of any Barcelona fans due to a ‘logistical error’ comes just days after the Catalan club was obliged to play a La Liga match against Las Palmas at the Nou Camp behind closed doors amid political tensions on the streets.A referendum on Catalan independence – which had been declared illegal by the Spanish authorities – gained worldwide headlines on Sunday following a violent police crackdown on voters across Catalonia.
