ESPN FC’s Craig Burley and Shaka Hislop break down Barcelona’s 1-0 win vs. Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The guys praise Lionel Messi for his winning goal for Barca, but Burley adds that Messi’s brilliance is “papering over the cracks and deficiencies” at the club and believes Ernesto Valverde might be without a job if not for his star player. Hislop says Barca are more reliant on Messi more now than when he won his first Ballon d’Or award in 2009.

What a way to pick up ballon d’or.

labyrinthodont 6 says:

Messi and Suarez are SUPPOSED to score. They are the attacking players that is their job. Who do they expect to score? The defenders? If defenders score it is a bonus. But Messi and Suarez are supposed to score or get fired.

Ben Palmer says:

Without Messi barca are exposed to how bad valverde really is

Yet stegen is skiing the coach as well

Zoltan Obru says:

This is getting so old. Leave the coach freakin' alone. Three of the four most important masters are gone. Iniesta, Xavi, Alves. It takes some time to rebuild a team. Coach hopping may work in Real.

BG 9 says:

So if Barcelona loses it’s Valverde’s fault, if they win and Messi plays well (which is well most of the time) he gets saved by Messi? Great Logic there! This Valverde bashing is disrespectfull just saying. Let the man do his job and enjoy his win.

Akinde Akintobi says:

I'm so happy that he said Suarez

Luke McGrory says:

Barcelona would’ve been better keeping Luis Enrique IMO

R Y says:

Messi should have sacrificed his ballon d’or and stopped delivering to sack Valverde. Barcelona is wasting too many good players like Griezmann, Coutinho and De Jong because of Valverde’s poor management.

Marko Nikolic says:

The most boring team in the world – Atletico Madrid.
